For years, Rawaa Mady has been a guardian angel to Lebanon’s forgotten animals. Through her work at Bekaa Rescue & Shelter, she has rescued, fed, and cared for more than 200 abused and abandoned dogs in the Bekaa Valley, giving each one a second chance at life.
Sadly, Rawaa now needs the same kind of care and compassion she has always given others. She recently underwent major brain surgery and developed serious complications. She is currently in the ICU at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, awaiting radiation treatment.
In a post shared on Instagram, her brother Mohamad revealed,
“After two emergency brain surgeries in August, Rawaa suddenly became unresponsive at home and had to be rushed back to the hospital. She’s stable but needs a third life-saving surgery immediately. We’ve spent everything on her first two surgeries and the hospital won’t proceed without payment. We need $6,000 to save the woman who has dedicated her entire life to saving the voiceless. The same hands that have healed hundreds of broken animals now need healing. The same heart that never gave up on a single rescue dog is asking you not to give up on her. Please share our story. Every dollar goes directly to AUB Hospital – we’ll provide all receipts.”
While she fights for her life, her shelter and the many dogs that depend on her are struggling to survive.
A fundraiser has been launched to help cover Rawaa’s medical expenses and to keep her shelter running during this incredibly difficult time. Every donation, share, or mention can make a difference, not just for Rawaa but for the countless animals who owe their lives to her compassion.
