New Commercial Souk to Open in Nabatieh One Year After Historic Souk’s Destruction

Following the destruction of Nabatieh’s centuries-old souk, a temporary souk called Al Baydar is set to open.

An initiative spearheaded by Al Nadi Al Husseini and Nabatieh locals, Al Baydar will serve as a temporary alternative to the historic souk destroyed by the war, providing a space to bring the community together once again.

The project will build 85 modular units in the Al Baydar area on land owned by the Husseini Waqf, with support from Sheikh Hussein Sadek. The market will host all commercial activities for free, giving priority to merchants whose livelihoods relied heavily on the once vibrant souk.

The market’s design includes careful planning of both the architectural layout and overall form. Iron bridges span the walkways, and interior lighting is installed throughout. Located in central Nabatieh, the market is intended to support commercial activity in the area.

According to circulating information, Al Baydar souk is expected to open on the first of February.

More than just a commercial hub, the temporary souk reflects a revival of Nabatieh and the determination of its people. For more updates, make sure to check out their Instagram. We’re happy to see initiatives like this emerging in Jnoub with a purpose to support the community.
