A Companion Above All: Lebanese Man Flees His Home for His Dog

A video circulating widely on social media shows Hamza Bitar, a Lebanese man, explaining why he decided to leave his home in Dahye amid violent airstrikes. In the clip, the man speaks candidly about the difficult decision to evacuate, saying he never wanted to leave his home.

Though prepared to withstand the sound of airstrikes and constant threats, he ultimately chose to leave after noticing his dog becoming increasingly stressed. You can watch the video here:

Viewers flooded the video with comments expressing admiration. Many praised the man for refusing to leave his dog behind and for prioritizing her comfort and safety. The video also highlights a reality often overlooked during crises: many frequently forget or abandon pets and animals when they evacuate. Cats, dogs, livestock, and even wildlife face stress, hunger, sickness, or death when left to fend for themselves.

Animal shelters across Lebanon are struggling to keep up with the rising demand for care, food, and safe spaces for displaced pets. These shelters urgently need your donations and support to continue their work.

We hope that our people, including Hamza and his adorable furry friend, will return home soon.
