Lebanese Cellist Plays Haunting Melodies Amid Dahye’s Rubble

Amidst the rubble in Beirut’s southern suburbs, Lebanese cellist Mahdi Sahely took to the streets of Dahye with his cello. For a few minutes, he would play haunting melodies in a neighborhood previously struck with devastating airstrikes.

His performance drew attention not through words or speeches, but through the cello’s haunting melodies, capturing the sadness of the streets through music.

Anyone who passed by as he played, or came across his videos on social media, believed that his playing was more than just music. It was a form of resistance that not only reflected Lebanon’s reality, but also connected viewers to the people most affected by the airstrikes.
