As many families across Lebanon are forced to leave their homes, many pets, particularly cats, are being left behind without a safe place to go.
In response, Wael Awada founded Meow Haven in Saida, a shelter dedicated to rescuing and caring for abandoned cats. The initiative began by taking in cats in need. It has since grown to include rescue efforts in heavily damaged areas, where the team retrieves trapped or abandoned cats and provides them with care and attention.
The team covers all essential needs, including food, water, litter, and even medical care when required. These services are provided free of charge to displaced individuals who have nowhere to keep their pets. For those forced to leave their homes, Meow Haven offers reassurance that their cats will be safe until they can be reunited.
The initiative is not just about shelter, it also provides all the daily necessities for cats: food, water, litter, and even medical follow-up if needed. And all of these services are offered for free to any displaced person who doesn’t have a place for their cat.
So, if you are forced to leave your home and don’t know where to keep your cat, Meow Haven is ready to temporarily take it in and care for it until you can be reunited.
Caring for such a large number of animals, however, comes with significant challenges. Daily costs continue to rise, and ongoing support is essential to keep the initiative running. Every contribution helps ensure that more cats remain safe and cared for during these difficult times.
