After A Long Run, Awkword and KED Go Their Separate Ways

For years, Awkword and KED were almost one and the same in Beirut’s comedy scene. The beloved space in Karantina became a weekly stop for stand-up nights, open mics, and the kind of comedy that felt very local.

Now, that long-running partnership has quietly come to an end. KED announced the end of their partnership on Instagram, bidding farewell to a chapter that helped shape some of the city’s most consistent stand-up nights.

Awkword built its identity as one of the city’s first underground stand-up platforms. It leaned into live comedy that felt unfiltered, giving space to both first-timers and seasoned comics to test material in front of real crowds.

At the same time, KED grew into a multi-use arts space in Karantina. Concerts, exhibitions, theater nights, and festivals all shared the same warehouse-style setting. It wasn’t designed as a comedy club, but it became one after weekly Awkword nights turned into a rhythm. For a while, Awkword at KED felt like a fixed point in the city’s cultural calendar.

We’re going to miss their weekly Comedy Club Nights at KED. This doesn’t mean you can’t catch Awkword’s comedians anymore. The shows are still happening, most likely in different venues across Beirut. Make sure to follow them on Instagram for updates.
