Apparently, You Can Now Rent Gold Instead of Buying It in Lebanon

With gold prices climbing, buying a full gold set for a wedding or special occasion has become an expensive commitment that not everyone can afford. Now, a slightly unexpected alternative is starting to make its way into Lebanon: renting gold jewelry instead of buying it.

So, can you actually rent gold in Lebanon?

The service isn’t widely available yet, and renting gold is still relatively uncommon. But a handful of jewelry shops have started offering the option to customers who want to wear a full gold set or statement piece for a special occasion without paying the full price.

One of the shops currently offering gold rentals is Nasiha Jewelry in Beirut’s Souk El Dahab in Barbir. There may be other jewelers offering a similar arrangement, although some reportedly do so more discreetly, mainly for trusted, returning customers they already know.

How does renting gold work?

The rental fee generally depends on the value of the piece or set, with the jewelry rented for a specific occasion or period, often just for the night.

Because you’re taking a valuable piece of gold out of the store, the jeweler may also require some form of guarantee. This could include a deposit, a guarantee covering the value of the gold, or identification and other documentation. The exact requirements can vary from one jeweler to another.

For example, a bride could wear an elaborate gold set on her wedding day without having to spend thousands of dollars buying it outright. And with gold prices per gram now exceeding $100, renting could make sense for someone who wants to wear gold for the occasion without necessarily wanting to own it afterwards.
