Quirky Beirut Finds: This Badaro Café Plays Italian Lessons in Its Toilet

We love a place with personality, and with so many spots opening around the city, it’s refreshing to find somewhere that actually does things a little differently. And this Badaro café might look unassuming, but it actually might be one of the coolest spots on the street.

Concierge is one of Beirut’s OG spots, offering specialty coffee in a hipster-but-in-a-cool-way type of vibe. People usually stop by for their cookies, to sit on their huge beanbag chairs upstairs, or yap on their trottoir, but there’s one overlooked detail that we find absolutely hilarious.

When you go to the bathroom, you’ll notice that on the door, written in chalk, is “Italian Lessons Inside”. I didn’t realize it was a bathroom at first until I opened the door, preparing to see a small classroom or workspace for you to actually learn.

Turns out, while you’re using the bathroom, Italian lessons play on a speaker so you can pick up a word or two. It feels a lot like when you forget to bring your phone into the bathroom, so you start reading the ingredients off your shampoo bottle.

It’s such a random little detail, but it’s exactly the kind of thing that makes a place memorable. Concierge clearly doesn’t take itself too seriously, and we’re very much here for cafés that sneak a little personality into the most unexpected places.
