A 12-Artist Fundraiser Is Bringing Beirut Together to Restore Fada Al Madina

Hamra was once known as one of Beirut’s intellectual and cultural heartbeats. Now, a new community-driven cultural space is working to bring some of that energy back.

On October 6, 3al Mareekh will bring together 12 Lebanese performers for a special night at Al Madina Theater. Proceeds will support the restoration and development of Fada Al Madina, a new cultural space within the premises.

The lineup brings together Mario Bassil, Nour Hajjar, Georges Tawil, Manel Mallat, Sandy Matar, May Sahhab, Aya Abi Haidar, Tarek Tamim, Mariam Chouman, Randa Makhoul, DJ Jude, and Dabket Moulayiten for a night combining live performances, stand-up comedy, music, dance, food, drinks, and surprises.

What is Fada Al Madina?

Operated by the FADA: Foundation for Arab Dramatic Arts, Fada Al Madina is being built as a cultural ecosystem. Artists can create, experiment, collaborate, and share their work with the community.

The project is centered around the idea of creating a professional but accessible space for both emerging and established artists. And it also gives Beirut another venue for theater and cultural exchange.

The space will include a 110-seat fully equipped theater auditorium, a multi-purpose workshop and rehearsal space, technical control and production facilities, exhibition spaces for local artists and artisans, offices, three artist dressing rooms, and a café and community gathering area.

More than a theater

Fada Al Madina is designed to host more than traditional theater productions. Its programming will include theater, children’s theater, dance, live music, workshops, training programs, educational activities, cultural talks, storytelling, exhibitions, community gatherings, and film screenings.

The space will also be available to independent artists, fresh graduates, community-led projects, and experimental and underground theater productions through an affordable rental model. Alongside external projects, the team behind Fada Al Madina plans to develop its own in-house productions and community programming.

3al Mareekh will take place on October 6, 2026, at Al Madina Theater in Hamra, Beirut. The project describes itself as “funded by the community, for the community,” with the aim of creating a sustainable cultural space that remains accessible, independent, and community-focused.
