The Art of Maqām on Violin and Sanṭūr

This concert presents several forms of instrumental improvisation in the maqām modal system of the Arab art music tradition of the Mašriq, mainly taqsīm, which is close to cantillation, and taḥmīla, which is close to responsorial. Professor Nidaa Abou Mrad (Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty of Music and Musicology at Antonine University) plays the violin and Dr Hayaf Yassine (Director of the North Section of the Faculty of Music and Musicology at Antonine University and Director of Bayt Al-Mūsīqā) plays sanṭūr in the style of the Nahda era.
