Not All Heroes Wear Capes: Meet Houssein Hamza, Lebanon’s Kindest Soul

It is often said that how one treats animals is a representation of their kindness as a human being. So what more can we say about Houssein Hamza, a Lebanese man from Tyre who dedicates his time to looking after, feeding, and rescuing stray cats and dogs that are often injured, malnourished or simply homeless.

His heart-warming videos have touched thousands, and have reached all corners of the globe, leading to one dog being adopted all the way in Canada.

His modesty is striking, and he only ever asks for help for the rescued dogs – never for himself. Houssein promptly provides updates and pictures to his batch of followers, assuring them of the dog’s recovery.

Houssein’s kindness and big heart have opened up a community for dog lovers around the country, with people being inspired to rescue dogs themselves and look after them till they are adopted

Some animals’ injuries are too heart-wrenching to describe, with some dogs having been shot and others suffering cigarette burns to their fur. With incredible charities such as BETA and Animals Lebanon in operation, it is also reassuring to hear of an individual such as Houssein taking charge of this seemingly helpless situation. His work has not only saved the lives of hundreds of dogs, but has also managed to raised awareness in a country where animals are not valued as living beings.

If you think you’re able to help, or simply want some reassurance that there is some good left in the world, check him out here.

In a couple of weeks, we will be paying him a visit in Tyre. We will be collecting dog food and other supplies beforehand, so feel free to drop off your donations at our Hamra-based offices and we will update you accordingly.
