Lebanese Man Fined For Shooting And Killing Endangered Hyena

A few days after taking to his social media to brag about shooting and killing a striped hyena in a disheartening post, a Lebanese man has been prosecuted for his crime by Internal Security Forces.

Identified as M.D., he was summoned by the ISF unit in Minieh, North Lebanon, where his hunting rifle was confiscated and he was slapped with a hefty fine, first for practicing wild hunting without a legal license, and second for not abiding by the general mobilization state.

The striped hyena is an endangered species that plays a vital role in the Lebanese environmental balance. It is also Lebanon’s national animal.
