20 Years Later, Balthus Beirut Is Closing Down

It’s no secret that the current financial and economic crisis has taken a toll on many local businesses, forcing them to shut down and let go of their employees.

One of the most recent victims of this hard-hitting reality is Balthus, a gorgeous and quite upscale restaurant in the heart of Downtown Beirut that made a name for itself with its unique interiors, scrumptious menu, and its tasty steaks.

In a heartbreaking Instagram post, the beloved Beirut spot announced that it will be closing its doors.

“The restaurant opened in Beirut back in 2000, and while always committing to excellence, we managed to overcome the successive crises that the country has faced since then. But the depth and severity of the current situation have left us with no choice but to permanently close our establishment,” their caption read.

Balthus was one of the very high-end restaurants in the country, and its pricing model would have made no sense given the current economy.

We can’t help but think of all the employees and businesses that are paying the price for a crisis they’re not responsible for.
