Awesome News: The GEMS Are Back!
You’ve probably heard about the very cool group of volunteers that have been cleaning up Lebanese beaches for nearly two years now.
While they took a brief break a couple of months ago due to the social and financial situation in the country, alongside the pandemic, we’re thrilled to announce that the GEMs are finally back!
GEM, which stands for Green Environment Movement, was founded back in August 2018 when a random tweet about cleaning up beaches picked up traction and eventually became a regular weekly activity for many volunteers from all over Lebanon.
Starting with only seven volunteers, they managed to pick up more than a ton of trash in just three weeks. And now they need your help again as they try to bring their lovely initiative to life.
You can meet them at Ghazir Beach this Sunday, July 26, at 9 AM for a clean-up. Don’t forget your masks!

So guys, a few years ago, I suggested we clean up beaches. Get a group of volunteers and move around Lebanon one beach at a time and pick up the trash.
