Update: 220+ Injured During Tripoli Protests Last Night

Since protests broke out in Tripoli a few days back, the clashes between citizens and army personnel have grown more violent, with teargas canisters, water cannons, and even live ammunition being used. Protestors responded by throwing rocks, and a total of 226 injuries were reported.

The protests began amid horrifying economic conditions during a strict lockdown, during which people were left penniless and unable to feed their families. This, coupled with the fact that basic necessities like baby formula and Panadol have disappeared off shelves across the country pushed people to the streets. Protestors managed to storm the Tripoli Serail for the second time in two days.

Lebanese ISF issued a statement asking protestors to “withdraw immediately” as they will be forced to defend their posts by all means necessary.

With over 50% of the population beneath the poverty line, the disastrous consequences of the inadequate and dysfunctional Lebanese government are well underway.

Post-edit: A young man by the name of Omar Taybi has sadly passed away after being shot last night.
