Transparency International just released the Corruption Perceptions Index, which ranks countries according to their level of corruption.
The score ranges from 0-100, 0 being very corrupt and 100 being very clean, and Lebanon just scored a 25/100 with a rank of 149/180 (surprise, surprise). Countries that rank worse than us include Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, Burundi, and Zimbabwe.
This does not come as a surprise considering the Lebanese currency devaluation, harrowing economic conditions, and the Beirut blast back in August — all problems that can directly be linked to rampant corruption. Lebanese politicians and the sectarian political system continue to exploit Lebanese citizens and destroy the future of the country.
