Lebanese Army Halts Boat Of Migrants Off Tripoli’s Coast

A few months ago, four boats carrying 123 Lebanese and Syrian migrants showed up on Cyprus’ coastlines.

It appears that this incident has become a recurring event as the Lebanese Army announced that just yesterday, they halted a boat carrying 59 Syrian refugees and 1 Lebanese citizen presumably heading to Cyprus.

Nicknamed “death boats,” these migrant boats frequently end up with those on it dying due to unsafe conditions. They also come at the expense of traffickers promising easy entry in exchange for hefty sums of money.

With the economic, political, and social situation deteriorating so rapidly in Lebanon, such mass migration is unfortunately foreseeable.
