123 Migrants From Lebanon’s Tripoli Port To Cyprus In 48 Hour Span
In the span of 48 hours, four vessels carrying 123 Lebanese and Syrian migrants showed up on Cyprus’ coastlines.
While half the migrants were permitted to disembark and sent to respective reception centers, one boat carrying 33 migrants was intercepted 14 miles off the coast. The 33 individuals were then sent back to Lebanon on a vessel chartered by Cypriot authorities.
Some 21 migrants are still aboard another boat that has a faulty engine that is floating along the Cypriot coast.
The Lebanese state had previously agreed to work with European Union members to prevent migrants from leaving on boats.
With the economic, political, and social situation deteriorating so rapidly in Lebanon, migration is unfortunately foreseeable.
