Ginane Makki Bacho was born in Beirut to a family of educators. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Arabic and French Literature and then in 1974, she joined the Fine Arts Institute at the Lebanese University. But war broke out in 1975, and she was forced to move with her family in 1976 to France where she studied Printmaking, Etching and Lithography.

Back to Lebanon, Ginane earned her BA in Fine Arts from LAU, with high distinction in 1982. In1984, and because of the war once again, she moved to New York where she pursued her MFA at Pratt Institute, graduating with distinction in 1987. In 2000, Ginane decided to come back to Beirut. She has taught printmaking at AUB and AUST ever since.

In 2008 Ginane was invited for the 3rd Artist Book of Bibliotheca Alexandrina where 2 of her books are now among the collection of the Library. One book entitled “Hakaytou Lawha” tells about the experience of the artist in front of a white paper or canvas, her fears, anxiety, visions until finally she ends up by building her painting.

Ginane works now and teaches art at her studio at Corniche Al Mazraa, Beirut. Her work is in many private and public collections around the world, including The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington D.C., the Museum of Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, the Lebanese Consulates in Los Angeles and New York, French Cultural Center in Beirut, the Bibliotheque Nationale de Paris, and others.
