The Pessoptimist Reading at Radio Beirut

Six readers (four in Palestine and two in Lebanon) will simultaneously read Emile Habibi’s novel “The Pessoptimist,” which will be simultaneously streamed live online through Radio Beirut.

Afterward, writers and artists in both Palestine and Lebanon will discuss the novel and have “direct dialogue” with the protagonist of Habibi’s novel, Saeed, in an attempt to grasp a different reading of the book and main character.

This one-day event is an attempt to take Saeed outside the text and think about the very idea of a contemporary Saeed, the pessoptimist.

The project will culminate in the production of a publication, including an audiobook version of Habibi’s classic, thus rewriting “The Pessoptimist”.
