The Artlab Gallery is hosting an exhibition by Mohammad Abbas called “Are We Not Human?”.

In his first solo exhibition, Abbas handles actual subjects with antiquated paganism; in contrast with the ancient deities and mythological characters marrying the human and the animal to symbolize strength, confidence and power, the artist sets scared and empty looking animal heads over meagre human bodies with inanition symptoms.

To marginalize his subjects even further, he dwarves them with large surfaces of dark-colored emptiness, highlighted with small areas of warm shades to re-establish a sense of balance.

Through direct eye contact between his subjects and the viewer, the artist wants to suggest the absence of existential individualism and the impossibility of expression which leads to deviance into decadence.
