Babel Ramadan Nights 2013

Babel Theater

As part of the Babel Ramadan Nights 2013, the Babel Theater will be hosting performances of the improvised play “The Tale of the Lost Shahrazade” by Laban.

This performance is a long-form improvised performance based on the framing story of “1001 Nights”. This format was first developed in English in San Francisco by one of Laban’s early trainers, Bassel Al-Naffouri. Laban was the first troupe to perform it in Arabic and in the Middle East/Arab World in 2011 to great success.

The show returns to take part in Babel Theater’s Ramadan festivities in four performances. Every show starts with Shahrazade trying to win yet another day to her life by telling Shahrayar a new story, yet we never know how it continues from there. The stories Shahrazade tells Shahrayar are improvised based on audience suggestion.
