Interior Minister Marwan Charbel Flees From Angry Mob at Explosion Site

MTV news has released video footage from earlier this hour showing Interior Minister Marwan Charbel being chased by an angry mob in the neighborhood of Bir el-Abed in southern Beirut. The army is seen firing shots in the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

Flanked by his armed guards, Charbel was forced to flee from the scene, hiding in a nearby building until the mob settled. The video shows the entire scene in two minutes, beginning with the riled up crowd and ending with the minister’s disappearance.

This comes after an explosion went off at around 11:00 a.m. this morning.

There are various reports surrounding the number of wounded, but so far, no one has been reported dead.

After being holed up in a building for about 20 minutes, Al-Jadeed News reported that Charbel was able to safely exit the area.
