REK and Mehdi Nassouli at Beirut & Beyond International Music Festival 2014

Beirut & Beyond is the first independent annual showcase festival in Lebanon that promotes young music talents from the Arab World and beyond.

Created in partnership with the Oslo World Music Festival, Beirut & Beyond is more than a series of concerts. It’s about exceptional musicians, a celebration of diverse musical genres, (folk, acoustic, alternative, jazz, hip hop and much more). It’s about the on-stage, the back-stage, and every stage in between. It’s about workshops, talks and opportunities to network and meet great people who are shaking and reshaping the music scene in Beirut and beyond.

Raed El-Khazen
REK’s sound is a mix of jazz/world music with a Mediterranean underlying tone. Three musicians hailing from different parts of the area bring to the table a variety of colors that make up REK’s sound and approach. They met in New York over a decade ago while living there. REK plays a collection of El-Khazen’s tunes interpreted in a stylistically open fashion deeply rooted in the sound and spirit of the land they come from.

Mehdi Nassouli
From a very young age, in Taroudant – Southern Morocco where he was born, Nassouli experienced the rhythms and sounds of the traditional Moroccan culture and this inspired him to dedicate his entire life to using his voice and studying multiple instruments.

As a fusion artist, he has collaborated and shared the stage with many international artists such as: Titi Robin, Benjamin Tobkin, Andy Emler, Sami Waro, Amazigh Kateb and much more.
