The Department of English at The American University of Beirut Is pleased to announce a lecture by Catherine Hansen on ‘Saran Alexandrian and Lebanese Surrealism.’
Catherine Hansen researches, translates, and writes on French and Romanian avant-garde and modernist literature and Japanese literature in the Department of Comparative Literature at Princeton University. Her work has appeared in L’Esprit Créateur, Dada/Surrealism, ARTMargins, The American Reader, Cabinet and Inventory. Her talk will explore Sarane Alexandrian’s approach to (and perhaps invention of) a “Lebanese surrealism,” while providing an overview of figures and groups in Lebanon that engaged directly with the movement.
