The Issam Fares Institute cordially invites you to a lecture and discussion about Social Policy and the “Arab Spring.”

This lecture analyzes the various external and internal forces that have directly or indirectly shaped social policies in some Arab countries and which have led to the latest popular uprisings. International and regional implications for sustainable development strategies are outlined and the contours of a comprehensive national development strategy are suggested.

Dr. Hassan R. Hammoud joined LAU in 1996 as an associate professor of Sociology and Social Work. Prior to this date, he taught Social Policy and Social Work at the Kuwait University for 16 years (1978-1995). More recently, and during a two-year-leave (2007-2009), he served as a founding director at Qatar Foundation where he had established a research division at the Doha International Institute for Family Studies and Development.
