West Beirut Cast: Then vs. Now

One of the most well-known movies in Lebanese cinema, director Ziad Doueiri’s West Beirut is a classic. Released in 1998, the cast has come a long way over 25 years later. Have you wondered what the cast looks like now? Read on!

Tarek (played by Rami Doueiri)

Since his acting debut, Doueiri has been involved in social activism and got married back in 2016. He also starred in a short film titled The Legend of Ruby Pasha in 2017. According to his LinkedIn, he’s currently working as a senior lab manager at The Lundquist Institute in California.

Omar (played by Mohamad Chamas)

Chamas has acted in one movie since West Beirut, Blind Flight (2003). Based on a 2021 documentary, he’s now a father and works as a water tank maintenance technician and electrician.

May (played by Rola El Amine)

Rola was tough to find! After some social media stalking, we found out that she’s a mom of four and a wellness coach with a passion for cooking.

Hala (played by Carmen Lebbos)

Lebbos is a well known and celebrated actor who continues her career in the field.

Riad (played by Joseph Bou Nassar)

Bou Nassar also has continued his career, acting in many TV series and films, including Beirut Open City (2008), Listen (2017), Al Hayba the Harvest (2019), and Taj (2024).

Neighbor (played by Liliane Nemry)

The hilarious Nemry went on to act in many films like Paper Plane (2004), Bosta (2006), Yanal (2023) as well as multiple TV roles, including the popular series Till Death (2019).

Oum Walid (played by Leila Karam)

Oum Walid was Karam’s last acting role after a long career. She died on December 2, 2008.

Hassan the baker (played by Mahmoud Mabsout)

Mabsout passed away on July 25, 2011 at the age of 70. He had acted in three feature films after West Beirut.
