Lebanese Doctor Performs Free Surgery On Protestors Who Lost Their Eyesight

Following up on the humane and amazing vow he made earlier this year, Dr. Samer Kahil, Head of the Lebanese-Swiss Center for Artificial Eyes, has successfully performed free eye surgery on protestors who lost their eyesight during violent clashes with riot police back in January 2020.

Editorial Purpose: We are sharing this piece of content to spread some good energy and shed light on great local initiatives.

Earlier this year, Lebanon witnessed what was deemed as the “week of wrath”, which left more than 500 people injured, according to the Lebanese Red Cross, the highest toll since the protests erupted in October 2019.

Among those injured were victims of rubber bullets and tear gas canisters fired at a close-range, which cost several protestors their eyesight, others their fingers, and some even their genitalia.

In an attempt to help out those he can, Dr. Kahlil volunteered to perform pro-bono eye surgery on injured protestors, and successfully delivered.
