If there’s one debate that will most likely never be settled, it’s certainly the one that revolves around who serves the best shawarma in Lebanon.
Here is a guide for SOME OF the best, the juiciest, and the most delicious shawarma sandwiches that you can try in Beirut. Check them out and let us know what your favorites are!
1. Basterma Mano – Bourj Hammoud Sizzling Soujouk Shawarma on warm pita bread is what we call an orgasm (almost). Mano has not left the spotlight since 1966, and for good reason.
This spot also serves the traditional beef and chicken shawarmas, but for those who are going to opt for their chicken shawarma, be sure to ask for that extra “Toum Tarboush” on top.
And for those asking, Basterma Mano and Basterma Bedo ARE NOT THE SAME.
2. Joseph Restaurant – Sin El Fil This exceptional, award winning shawarma sometimes makes you wait a good 45 minutes in line, but it all tends to be worth it. A place always filled with the famished who are always up for an encore after their first sandwich, this spot is a must-try
Joseph has been serving up some of the crispiest and tastiest sandwiches for almost 20 years, and we’re glad he is still going strong!
3. Restaurant Jabbour– Dora The ultimate street food experience can be found at Jabbour! Their chicken shawarma skewer runs out pretty quickly, so be sure to beat the lunch rush hour. This restaurant is famous for the juiciest chicken shawarma, so be sure not to drip any on yourself because it
will stain.
Their toum is pretty pungent so probably not the best spot for a date, but then again, they’re not the one if they’re not into toum.
4. Makhlouf – Dora You COULD say that Makhlouf and Jabbour are siblings since they’re right by each other (talk about healthy competition), but things are quite different once you step in Makhlouf.
If you’re looking for the most delectable beef shawarma of them all, Makhlouf is definitely your go-to. A hearty meaty portion drizzled with some extra pomegranate molasses (debs el remmen), your taste buds are in for a wild ride with this incredible sandwich!
5. Barbar – Hamra One of Hamra’s oldest street food joints, Barbar offers some of the tastiest pint-sized shawarmas in town!
Known as “juicy barbar”, their traditional shawarma is what you need if you want a hit of nostalgia.
