Dessert Lovers, This Pain Perdu in Beirut Is Going Viral

Is it just us, or has it been hard to find good pain perdu lately? If you’ve been craving this classic French dessert, Nayla’s cube-shaped pain perdu has been making the rounds on social media, and we’ve been dying to try it.

Nestled in the heart of Achrafieh, Nayla has become a go-to café for its cozy atmosphere and all-day menu. It doesn’t matter if you’re stopp by for a morning coffee, a leisurely brunch, lunch, or an afternoon catch-up with friends, the café offers everything from fresh pastries to hearty dishes.

But their signature pain perdu? Just take a look:

Instead of the usual slice, Nayla serves two thick cubes stacked on top of each other. The pain perdu looks incredibly soft and fluffy, and is topped with vanilla soft serve (and some on the side), a generous drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce, and a dusting of powdered sugar.

Priced at $13, this dessert is perfect for sharing (or keeping all to yourself, we won’t judge).

Back in 2022, we wrote a food guide for the best spots to enjoy delicious pain perdu, but unfortunately, some of them have shut down. Maybe it’s time to revisit that piece so we have an excuse to try Nayla’s pain perdu.

Let us know what your go-to spot for pain perdu is in Beirut! We’d love to try them. Check out the #Desserts section on our website for more.
