Lebanon has been brought up once again, and this one really tracks. During a recent podcast, Akon looked back on his performances around the world and revealed that the Lebanese crowd was the craziest he’s ever seen.
Recalling a concert he performed in 2008, Akon explained that many artists were hesitant to come to Lebanon at the time because of the country’s situation. He said the event was organized to help lift morale following a period of hardship, and despite concerns, he decided to go ahead with the performance.
According to Akon, the turnout was massive. “It was easily 200,000 people,” he said while describing the crowd. The singer remembered performing hits like Ghetto before deciding to jump into an inflatable zorb ball and roll through the audience, something he always did during his concerts.
Akon spotted what appeared to be a particularly enthusiastic fan and rolled toward him to create a memorable moment. Instead, the fan pulled out a blade and punctured the inflatable ball. He joked that the fan was simply so eager to hug him that he cut through the ball.
The stunt left Akon trapped inside a rapidly deflating sphere in the middle of what was a 200,000-person crowd. He managed to locate the puncture hole and squeeze himself out of the ball before it completely deflated. By the time people realized he was no longer inside the ball, he had already reached safety. Akon recalled his lighting technician spotting him and immediately shining a spotlight in his direction.
Not sure who had the bright idea of stabbing the zorb ball, but we’re glad Akon had a fun time. Hopefully, Lebanese people don’t bring switchblades to concerts anymore…
