As part of the “Cinema Mondial Tour” film festival, Metropolis Cinema is hosting a screening of the documentary “Dolls – A Woman From Damascus” by Diana El Jeiroudi.
Synopsis: Manal, a housewife, insists on chasing a personal dream to get back to work. Her two young daughters are mesmerized by the smiling face they see daily on TV: the Arab phenomenon doll, Fulla. Behind Fulla’s smile is her marketing manager who knows that Damascene society traditions are top-selling products. And that by personifying these traditions, Fulla was able to push Barbie off her throne not only in Syria, but throughout the Arab world.
