Migrant Workers Left Out Of Lebanon’s Vaccination Plan So Far

After a racist hashtag #اللقاح_للبناني_اولا was trending for some time last month, Minister of Health in Lebanon’s caretaker government Hamad Hassan announced the intention to vaccinate 80% of the population by the end of 2021 regardless of nationality, thus upholding inclusivity of refugees.

However, it appears that this call for inclusivity did not consider the 450,000 migrant domestic workers who were simply overlooked.

Although government figures state that there are only 250,000 domestic workers in Lebanon, many non-governmental agencies place that the number closer to 450,000. The Ministry of Health has not yet addressed whether the vaccination plan will include migrant domestic workers. If they are looking to implement a successful vaccination plan, then all individuals residing in Lebanon should be taken into consideration.
