Mikati: “We [politicians] want to go to restaurants again”

Are you ready for a heart wrenching story? Grab a box of tissues, this one is going to be intense.

Readers, over the past year we have shared countless stories of people self immolating due to not being able to feed their families, children dying due to lack of medication, and a port explosion that murdered 220 people and left thousands injured and broken.

But no story has been as gut-wrenching as this one.

Prime Minister designate Najib Mikati made his way onto television last night to make a plea for the political ruling class saying, “ma 2ilna 3ein nimshi bil sheri3, beddi erja3 rou7 3al mat3am”. This translates to, “we can’t walk down the streets, we want to go to restaurants”.

Are you openly weeping yet?

Mikati is referring to the fact that our corrupt, criminal, and murderous ruling class has frequently become the target of verbal attacks by citizens whenever they are seen in public. It turns out that when you ransack an entire country, deplete people’s savings, erode all its institutions, and blow up a large part of the city, people MIGHT just want to say “tfeh” to you in public.

We hope Najib finds the strength to carry on during these dark times. Heck, maybe he can even just sail away on his $100 million yacht.
