Traffic Law For Lebanon, Here’s Everything You Need To Know

New traffic laws were introduced in Lebanon by the ISF back in 2012. Here’s a refresher and the most significant traffic offenses and their respective implications.

Driving under the influence:

Driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.5 – 0.8 g/L — 200,000 LL, if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Having open alcohol containers in the vehicle — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.8 – 1 g/L — 350,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 450,000 LL

Driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of over 1 g/L — 1,000,000 LL – 3,000,000 LL fine + seizing of vehicle + jail time

Speeding Offenses:

Driving under the speed limit by 20 Km/h — 100,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 150,000 LL

Driving over the speed limit by 20 – 40 Km/h — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Driving over the speed limit by 40 – 60 Km/h — 350,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 450,000 LL

Driving over the speed limit by 60 Km/h — 1,000,000 LL – 3,000,000 LL fine + seizing of vehicle + jail time

Car Safety:

Dangling head or body part out of vehicle while it is moving — 100,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 150,000 LL
Using any mobile devices while driving — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Not wearing a seatbelt in both the passenger and backseats — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Having a child younger than 10 years old in the passenger seat — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Having a child younger than 5 years old not be in a carseat — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Traffic Rules:

Blocking an intersection — 50,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 70,000 LL

Not giving priority for vehicles on the inside of a roundabout — 50,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 70,000 LL

Making an illegal U-turn —100,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 150,000 LL

Not stopping at a stop sign — 100,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 150,000 LL

Not stopping on the appropriate crossing lines at a traffic light — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Driving against traffic — 350,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 450,000 LL

Not complying with traffic lights — 350,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 450,000 LL

Driving in a zigzag, or performing acrobatics — 1,000,000 LL – 3,000,000 LL fine + seizing of vehicle + jail time

Use of headlights:

Not using signal lights — 50,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 70,000 LL

Not using hazard lights in the event of a broken down vehicle — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Using high beams where they are not allowed/needed — 350,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 450,000 LL

Parking Rules:

Parking in no-parking zones — 50,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 70,000 LL

Parking on pedestrian walkways or sidewalks — 50,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 70,000 LL

Parking in handicapped spots (without having the license to) — 100,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 150,000 LL

Displaying or parking vehicles for sale in public parking spots — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Road Safety:

Not having a hazard triangle in your car — 50,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 70,000 LL

Having tinted windows — 100,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 150,000 LL

Not paying the Mecanique fees — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Buying or renting parts in order to cheat the revision — 1,000,000 LL – 3,000,000 LL fine + seizing of vehicle + jail time

Motorcycles:

Not using lights during day and night — 100,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 150,000 LL

Having an extra passenger on the motorcycle who is younger than 10 years old — 100,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 150,000 LL

Not wearing a helmet — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

A noisy motorcycle that causes disturbance — 1,000,000 LL – 3,000,000 LL fine + seizing of vehicle + jail time

Performing acrobatics during driving — 1,000,000 LL – 3,000,000 LL fine + seizing of vehicle + jail time

Plates and registration:

Having plates inside the car and not outside — 50,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 70,000 LL

Having unclear plates — 100,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 150,000 LL

Driving without registration — 350,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 450,000 LL

Driving without plates on either the front or the back of the bike — 350,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 450,000 LL

Driving without a license — 1,000,000 LL – 3,000,000 LL fine + seizing of vehicle + jail time

Driving an impounded motorcycle — 1,000,000 LL fine + 3-months jail time

Accidents and Insurance:

Causing accidents and not immediately stopping, or performing a hit and run — 1,000,000 LL – 3,000,000 LL fine + seizing of vehicle + jail time

Not moving vehicles affected by accidents to the side of the road (in the event of material losses only) — 100,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 150,000 LL

Pollution:

Having carbon emissions that exceed what is legally allowed — 200,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 350,000 LL

Littering — 350,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 450,000 LL

Causing noise pollution — 350,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 450,000 LL

Pedestrian Laws:

Not abiding by the pedestrian lights — 20,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 30,000 LL

Crossing a highway — 20,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 30,000 LL

Crossing an intersection or roundabout where there is no pedestrian walkway — 20,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 30,000 LL

Walking inside tunnels — 20,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 30,000 LL

Entering or exiting vehicles 25 meters from lights, intersections, or roundabouts — 20,000 LL if it remains unpaid for 15 days, it becomes 30,000 LL
