News anchor and reporter Wassim Oraby of Lebanon’s national channel
TeleLiban resigned on air on Saturday night after 11 years of working at the station.
In his resignation speech, Oraby stated that he had spent the last 11 years relaying terrible news every night including “explosions, assassinations, assaults on the borders north and the south, internal conflicts, and everything in between”.
“I can no longer stay in a place that is a graveyard for dreams,” he added. “I am not leaving because I couldn’t find a job, I am leaving because I am disgusted by you,” a sentiment seemingly targeting Lebanon’s ruling class and political elite.
“In the hopes that we may have a nation to come back to, not just be buried in, goodbye.”
