No More Rainbow! Master Chips Changes Packaging to Remove “LGBTQ” Colors

After the Minister of Interior’s ban on Pride events, the Lebanese political and social scene saw a rise in archaic homophobic sentiments and statements. Unfortunately, brands and social figures also did not shy away from sharing their hateful opinions.

On Monday June 27, Lebanese snack company Master Chips announced its intention to remove a rainbow found on the packaging of its “Snackers” chips bag in order to distance itself from any pro LGBTQ+ messaging.

The company, which is owned by Lebanese MP Michel Daher, stated that their rainbow is not connected to the LGBTQ+ movement in any way, but that the company would be removing it nonetheless. The rainbow, which is seen on a T-shirt worn by a humanoid fox, was a very small part of the overall packaging.

This comes amidst growing anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and action in the country during this year’s pride month. We wonder if the sky will be receiving any complaints after the next rainfall.
