Price Of Internet Bundles Set To Increase In Lebanon Amid Poor Service

Lebanon’s caretaker government was scheduled to address a potential increase in internet prices during today’s session but ended up postponing the decision to a later day. Given the country’s ongoing economic crisis and various talks and leaks of different pricing schemes, it seems highly likely that internet prices will eventually be raised.

Despite not being official yet, it does not help when the Minister of Telecom Johnny Corm says things like, “With the direction towards increasing internet tariffs, we say to the citizens that the current price is 30% lower than it was in 2018, and we are doing our best to ensure continuity.”

The leaked bundles show services to be priced as follows in comparison to old prices:

It is important to note that Ogero and other ISPs have been providing extremely splotchy service across the country over the past few months, with many outages being experienced in various areas.

If implemented, these price hikes could result in further financial burdens for the already struggling Lebanese population, hindering their access to crucial online services and exacerbating the digital divide in the country.

Prices were raised back in May of 2022, just a little over a year ago.
