Is It a Bird? Is It a Plane? It’s Actually Oleg, Lebanon’s Only Borzoi
Do you remember that one TikTok trend with that dog and the tube of Pringles? If you have no idea what we’re talking about, here’s a video for reference:
This unique dog breed, the Borzoi, took the internet by storm for its adorable and rather extraordinary appearance. With their impossibly long snouts, lanky legs, silky coats, and elegant build, Borzois often leave people wondering whether they’re looking at a dog, a horse, or even a deer.
But did you know there’s one right here in Lebanon? Oleg, a 10-month-old puppy, is believed to be the country’s only Borzoi, and he’s turning heads everywhere he goes.
About the breed
The Borzoi is a rare sighthound that originated in Russia. Originally bred to chase wolves, foxes, and hares across vast open landscapes, the breed relies on incredible speed, agility, and sharp eyesight rather than scent.
Despite their athletic history and striking appearance, Borzois are known for being calm, affectionate, and surprisingly laid-back at home.
We think Oleg embodies peak athleticism:
Their long, narrow faces, towering height, silky coats, and elegant build make them one of the world’s most recognizable dog breeds.
They’re also intelligent and independent, which means training takes patience and consistency. Because Borzois are so uncommon, especially in Lebanon, many people have never seen one in person.
How did Oleg come to Lebanon?
Bringing Oleg to Lebanon wasn’t as simple as booking a flight. His family spent time on a waiting list before the right puppy became available from a breeder in Krasnodar, Russia.
Once everything was confirmed, Oleg’s journey involved arranging veterinary checks, travel documents, and an international pet passport before he could make the trip.
With the help of Dr. Khodor, Oleg finally arrived in Beirut on January 15, 2026, at around three months old. He also has an official pedigree documenting his bloodline.
After a long journey from Russia, the gentle giant has since settled into life in Lebanon, where he’s believed to be the country’s only Borzoi.
We think the Ministry of Tourism should hire Oleg because he has such a great eye for finding beauty in the most unexpected places.
