Syndicate Of Hospitals In Lebanon: We’re Running Out Of Anaesthetic Equipment

Back in January, we shared the cries of Lebanon’s medical equipment importer who warned that Lebanon was running out of surgical tools. Today, a new problem has emerged further threatening Lebanon’s hospital sector. Hospitals are now experiencing a shortage in essential surgical and anesthetic equipment, a truly frightening prospect.

Editorial Purpose: We are sharing this piece of content to keep you in the loop on the latest happenings in the country.

Shortages in such types of equipment can prevent the hospitals from delivering safe, timely, and effective surgical care. In an interview with Arab News, president of the Syndicate of Hospitals in Lebanon Dr. Sleiman Haroun said it was impossible to perform operations without this essential substance, adding that the 136 private hospitals in Lebanon have stopped receiving new cases unless they are emergency cases subsidized by the Central Bank of Lebanon.

While the Central Bank is delaying approvals of money transfers, many importers of medical supplies are facing shortages particularly now that one of the two vendors of oxygen gas is asking hospitals to pay in dollars.

Are we going to just settle with “the pain will go away when the pain stops hurting” from now on?
