Beirut’s beloved Em Sherif Deli is causing quite the stir on social media after revealing their Sandwich of the Month: the Banadoura Sandwich. Here’s what happened.
The issue arose when the sandwich’s price was revealed to be around $13. July’s star item is made with banadoura jabaliyeh, toum, sumac, extra virgin olive oil, green chili, and spring onion layered between two slices of sourdough.
On one hand, many were questioning why a simple tomato sandwich was being sold at that price.
But on the other hand, Em Sherif’s loyal customer base deems everything on their menu worth your money, even something as simple as a tomato sandwich. They’re paying for the brand, the experience, and the story behind it. Em Sherif has long been considered a high-end destination, and their deli is simply an extension of that identity.
On social media, the comments varied between sarcastic…
…and eagerness to try, even if at home:
Would you pay $13 for a tomato sandwich? The ingredients are all listed, so you can always try making it at home for a budget-friendly taste test.
