Bread&Net: Three-Day Digital Rights Gathering Comes to Beirut

Bread&Net, the region’s leading annual gathering on digital rights, is coming to Beirut on October 29–31, 2025. The event, organized by SMEX, brings together journalists, policymakers, technologists, and activists from across West Asia and North Africa to discuss the challenges and opportunities posed by digital technologies in the region

Here’s what to expect from this upcoming event.

Over the course of three days, more than 80 speakers will share their experiences and insights on pressing issues such as online surveillance, censorship, disinformation, and equitable access to the internet.

Attendees will also strategize collective action, forging alliances aimed at promoting a safe, free, and open internet across the Arabic-speaking world.

Unlike traditional gatherings, Bread&Net encourages participants to actively contribute their knowledge, propose sessions, and engage in dialogue rather than just listen to presentations.

The event has become a crucial meeting ground for those rethinking the relationship between power, technology, and freedom in the region.

This is the first time this event comes back to Beirut since 2023, so it would be a great opportunity to catch it in full swing. The event is also open to anyone interested in digital rights advocacy!
