Spotted a Dying or Damaged Tree in Lebanon? You Can Now Report It to LRI

If you come across a dead or visibly declining tree, unusual signs of forest decline, or a damaged forest area, you can now report it through a new monitoring initiative by the Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI).

The initiative is asking people across Lebanon to document trees and forest areas that appear to be affected. The reports will be shared with the Ministry of Agriculture and relevant experts. They will assess each case and determine the appropriate follow-up.

And you don’t need to be a forestry expert to submit a report. The form is designed to collect basic information about what you’ve spotted and where.

What do you need to report?

The form first asks for your name and phone number, so you can be contacted if needed. You’ll then need to provide the GPS location of the affected area, along with a photo showing the area where the trees were observed.

The final section asks you to record details about the affected trees. You can add separate entries for different tree types or conditions. For each observation, you’ll be asked to specify:

– Whether the trees are dead or partially affected

– The type of tree, with options including pine, oak, cedar, or another species

– The number of affected trees

For example, if you spot three dead pine trees and two partially affected ones in the same area, you can record them as separate observations in the form.

The goal is to help identify affected areas and build a clearer picture of the scale of forest decline. So, if you notice something unusual while hiking, driving through a forested area, or simply passing by, report it to LRI.
