19-Year-Old Tunisian Girl Who Posed Topless Faces Prosecution

After posting a topless feminist photo on Facebook, 19-year-old Tunisian girl Amina has received harsh criticism and praise from Islamists and feminists alike.

Reported by Al Arabiya, Amina’s scandalous photo garnered a call of quarantine by Salafi preacher Alami Adel, who gave a quote to Tunisian newspaper, Assabah News.

“According to God’s law, she deserves 80 to 100 lashes, but what she committed is worth much more than that. She deserves to be stoned to death and she must be quarantined because what she did is an epidemic.”

“She is like someone suffering from a serious and contagious illness and she must be secluded and treated.”

Amina’s photo features her smoking a cigarette, with the words “My body belongs to me and is not the source of anyone’s honor” written over her topless torso. She is a member of the feminist group FEMEN, a Ukrainian women’s rights initiative famously known for their topless protests.

Amina is currently in a psychiatric hospital in Tunis, having been brought there by her parents.

A petition has thus been created demanding her safety, emphasizing “Amina represents us.”
