19 Ways You Can Volunteer In Lebanon In 2019

If one of your new year’s resolution is to start giving back, we rounded up 19 volunteer opportunities that will help you do just that. Note: these are also perfect for challenging kids to be more conscious of the world around them!

1. Alzheimer’s Association

The Alzheimer’s association aims to provide a welcoming and loving atmosphere for people living with dementia or Alzheimer. Volunteers are trained to give the necessary care, love, and aid to patients, along with a whole lot of fun. Learn more here.

Here are some online volunteering opportunities with the UN that you can venture into from the comfort of your own home that you can sign up to depending on your field of expertise. Learn more here.


3. Hostel Beirut

Hostel Beirut cooperates with CYC, the Children and Youth Center to help vulnerable young refugees (mainly teenagers and kids), through educational projects, programs, and workshop (sports, language, dance, arts, music). Learn more here.




4. Food Blessed

Hunger Heroes are Food Blessed’s volunteers who work on reducing food waste. You don’t have to be an experienced chef to be able to volunteer, all are welcome. Sign up here.




5. Children’s Cancer Center

Volunteers at CCCL help create a warm and fun atmosphere for the children. You can entertain them with games, reading stories, and other activities. Keep in mind that volunteer assignments have a minimum commitment of 3 consecutive months and volunteers must serve at least two to four hours a week. Sign up here.




6. Nasma Center

Help kids with their homework by tutoring them. Nasma is a center that aims to provide equal educational opportunities for socio-economically underprivileged children. Sign up here.




7. Migrant Community Center

Help out by giving migrant workers English lessons or other language classes. You can also contribute by giving workshops in graphic design, text translation, music, and various other topics. Sign up here.




8. Haven For Artists

Haven For Artists is an NGO that offers a platform for local and regional artistic talent. Volunteers can help with organizing events and facilitating the residency programs. Sign up here.




9. Embrace

Embrace runs the first suicide prevention hotline in Lebanon, you can volunteer as a lifeline operator after receiving workshops and training or help with organizational tasks. Sign up here.




10. The A-Project

The A-Project’s hotline answers people’s questions on sexuality, gender and reproductive health. Volunteers can help with raising awareness, organizing events and become a helpline operator. Sign up here.




11. Red Cross

Being a Red Cross volunteer isn’t just about first aid, volunteer opportunities also include giving workshops, raising awareness on health, and other fundraising and administrative activities. Learn more here.




12. Basmeh & Zaitooneh

Basmeh & Zeitooneh is always looking for new volunteers to help run projects on the ground, and start new initiatives. You can volunteer with Basmeh & Zeitooneh to help them with their different projects which include female empowerment and refugee support done through regular visits to the camps. 13. Danish Refugee Council

The DRC also focuses on aiding Syrian refugees by visiting their homes, distributing food and helping families reconstruct their houses after weather damage. Piece of advice: they don’t respond to emails. Be assertive and visit their office in Achrafieh to ask for an opportunity. It’s worth it.




14. Habitat For Humanity

Habitat for Humanity usually recruits volunteers on occasions of certain projects, during which extra hands are needed. HFHL helps build and renovate houses for those in need of housing in Lebanon. Learn more here.

The YMCA Youth Social Participation Program invites youngsters to take part in psycho social support projects focusing on mitigating the tension of the people’s intolerance toward others, concerning displaced persons and host communities in Lebanon. Sign up here.

Built around apolitical and non-confessional values, Offre Joie uses ethical and social projects to create social links between Lebanese people of different backgrounds and religions by promoting a culture of collective responsibility. Learn more here.




18. The Green Environment Movement

The birth child of a simple well-timed call for action, the Green Environment Movement started on Twitter. It kicked off with less than 20 volunteers on its first beach cleanup, and has since grown and cleaned up several neglected public shores and polluted areas on a weekly basis. 19. BETA Lebanon
