Iconic Hamra Spot Dar Bitro & Books Closing Down

A world that celebrated books, good wine, and photography Dar Bistro & Books has sadly announced that they would be saying goodbye to Beirut.

It’s no secret that the current financial and economic crisis has taken a toll on many local businesses, forcing them to shut down and let go of their employees. We have seen the likes of Bristol Hotel,  Balthus restaurant, and Hotel Alexandre each close their doors and one of the most recent victims of this hard-hitting reality is Dar Bistro & Books.

In a heartbreaking Facebook post, the restaurant, cafe, and book shop said, “It is with a heavy heart that we are sharing the news that Dar is closing its doors. This has been an extraordinarily difficult decision made after much deliberation, calculation and soul searching. We really did our best, but during these tough times, in the era of economic uncertainties and social distancing, we had to consider how to reconcile that with a space created to bring people together.”

We can’t help but think of all the employees and businesses that are paying the price for a crisis they’re not responsible for.

Goodbye Dar, you were always a happy place.
