Heartbreaking Video: Lebanese Man Tells Security Forces “Shoot Us So We’d Die With Dignity”

For the past two days, protestors have been taking back to the streets after the Lebanese Lira hit a new low in the black market.

Among those angry citizens was a middle-aged man who was filmed in a heart-wrenching encounter with security forces.

Seated on the floor at the frontline with many protestors behind, the man can be heard telling forces standing above him: “You’re holding a gun, a weapon, shoot us. Shoot us so we’d die with honor, better than dying without honor. Let us die with dignity, better than dying without dignity. Let us teach our children about dignity and honor.”

Watching the video, you can sense the desperation in the man’s voice and overall demeanor, especially considering the current situation in the country.

The protests picked up momentum on Tuesday night when the dollar reached an all-time high, being exchanged for 5,000 LL at currency exchange shops. This prompted several groups to take to the streets in protest of the worsening economic conditions.
