Lebanon’s ‘Beirut Life’ crowned 2012 Castrol Goal Champions in the Middle East

Winning squad destined for UEFA Euro 2012TM Championship

Castrol concluded its third annual Castrol Goal Tournament in the region with Lebanon’s ‘Beirut Life’ team winning the title and becoming the lucky squad to fly to Ukraine to watch England take on Sweden in their European Championships 2012 match on June 15th.

Eight teams from Abu Dhabi, Amman, Beirut, Dubai, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia battled for glory at the Dubai Ice Rink at The Dubai Mall, but the final saw Lebanon’s ‘Beirut Life’ prevailing 5-3 over Dubai’s’ Diadora’ team. All eight members of the Lebanese winning squad will be flown to watch the Group D match at the 70,000-capacity Olympic National Sports Complex in Kiev. The overall “Best Player” was Yasser Salman and “Best Goalkeeper” was Hussein Hamadani, both from ‘Beirut Life.’

The group stages of the competition saw the winners being drawn in Group B alongside Kuwait B, UAE Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia. Group A, meanwhile, consisted of UAE Dubai, Jordan, Kuwait A and Lebanon A.

The semi-final pitted the two Lebanon teams ‘Beirut Life; and ‘BLC’ against each other while UAE’s ‘Diadora’ team from Dubai beat ‘Amin Chocair’ team from Jordan for their place in the showpiece encounter.

There was more joy for the visiting Lebanese delegation after their ‘BLC’ team clinched the third place beating Jordan in the play-off of the tournament.

Alongside the action on the pitch, spectators of all ages tested their own skills in a number of testing football based challenges. These included a dribble and control challenge and a Castrol Edge free-kick accuracy test with chances to win Castrol prizes, mall vouchers and a Sony Playstation PS3 for the overall winner. Young children had the chance to join in the fun on their own inflatable pitch while football freestylers gave the assembled crowd a masterclass in close control showing off their outrageous skills.

Castrol is one of the key official sponsors of the upcoming UEFA Euro 2012TM tournament in Poland and Ukraine. Castrol Goal is an initiative whereby combining various football platforms primarily targeted to the youth of the Middle East countries.
