Presidential Palace Goes Pink

Lebanon’s First Lady, Wafaa Sleiman, has brought breast cancer awareness to light – pink light. Illuminating the presidential palace on Monday with the color of awareness, Sleiman and the Health Minister Ali Hasan Khalil began the breast cancer awareness campaign, with the slogan “Early detection saves your life.”

The pink wasn’t only for show; Sleiman and Khalil raised important facts about breast cancer in Lebanon and pledged to help increase awareness in the coming year. In fact, for the next three months public hospitals will offer free mammograms, and private hospitals will offer a reduced cost of 40,000 L.L. Khalil shared some alarming information, stating that breast cancer accounts for nearly 41% of all cancer cases of women in Lebanon. However only 38 percent of women receive breast screenings yearly.

We applaud our First Lady for her dedication to awareness. Here’s hoping it makes a difference.
