NNA Director Laure Sleiman Abruptly Fired Allegedly For Reporting On Protests

Coincidence or censorship?

National News Agency Director-General Laure Sleiman was abruptly fired from her position yesterday October 23rd, allegedly due to her diligent reporting on the ongoing protests.

After 11 years as Director-General of the NNA, Sleiman was dismissed via a written letter signed by Information Minister Jamal Jarrah, who then appointed Ziad Harfouche in her place. Harfouche is a sub-editor at Annahar and a member of the Free Patriotic Movement.

According to the letter, the decision was to be implemented immediately upon issuance.

Sleiman explained that she doesn’t understand why she was dismissed from the job, but if it was her punishment for giving a voice to the people, then she’s proud.
